Fit for the Future? Conference on Scoping the Medical Workforce for Intellectual Disabilities Services of the Future

What type of medical workforce do we want for Intellectual Disability services of the future?

Thursday 13 June 2019          09:30 to 16:30

Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
18 Mole Business Park
Leatherhead
KT22 7AD

This is advanced notice of a conference aimed at senior people involved in the care of people with learning disabilities and autism encompassing senior medical, nursing and management personnel as well as senior people within organisations representing carers and those with intellectual disabilities.

As funding for NHS services is limited while the population is growing, it is crucial to re-evaluate the services provided to ensure that they are suitable for future needs.  Key factors that affect the services provided is the training and development of medical staff, their recruitment and retention, and how they work with non-medical professionals to deliver the best possible care to people.  Health Education England – Kent, Surrey and Sussex has commissioned Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to review this issue.

As a senior figure in the field of Intellectual Disabilities, we would like to invite you and your senior colleagues to attend this conference and contribute to discussions on how we can develop a high quality medical workforce and services that will serve the future needs of this population within Kent, Surrey and Sussex.  This conference is free of charge and refreshments will be provided.  Leatherhead station is just 5 minutes’ walk away (see attached map), but if you require parking please state this when you register your interest.

Please register your initial interest for this conference with Mary Ondrusz at Mary.Ondrusz@sabp.nhs.uk.  A formal programme will be issued later. In the meantime, if you have any queries about this event, please contact Dr Raja Mukherjee at Raja.Mukherjee@sabp.nhs.uk or Mary Ondrusz.

We look forward to hearing from you and your colleagues.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Raja Mukherjee MBBS, FRCPsych,
